Lundie daughters

Post by car » Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:11 pm

I know how pleased every one on the forum is when some-one has a success story. Mine is just a little one but I wanted to let you know.

I joined TS last weekend and posted queries re the Lundie daughters at the beginning of the week. Lesley pointed out various web sites where I might find details of the Dundee orphanage where the girls were. I emailed them that night and tonight I had such a lovely reply. They gave me details of the date the girls were admitted and also the dates they left. Who the Petitioners were in each case. They even told me that Christina ceased to be a pupil on 28 November 1889 (aged 15) and that she was then engaged as a domestic servant in the Institution. Her wages are noted as "£2 for half year".

They will send me copies of the peititions if I send my postal address - needless to say already done!!

As so many of you have said on this forum, the little successes go a long way in making up for all the brick walls.

Dancing on the ceiling.

How exciting Car!! It's so fascinating to get the kind of information that says something about our relatives lives, rather than just dates of birth, marriage and death. I'd say you're hooked now 8)
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Car
That's wonderful to hear that you have received some more information about the Lundie sisters. Thanks for getting back to us to let us us know how you got on, and I'm so pleased to hear that the links were fruitful. :D

Best wishes
Lesley

p.s. for future reference, where were the records held for that orphanage- Dundee City Archives, Dundee City Library or Dundee University Archives? (on a hunch, I'd be guessing the City Archives.... but I may be wrong)

sheilajim, SarahND, LesleyB - thanks for replying. I was really chuffed to bits with the info.

I thought the copies might have arrived yesterday, as they didn't, hopefully tomorrow.

Lesley, you were correct - Dundee Archives, email from Richard Cullen. He has also told me where I might find information regarding Euphemia's burial.

Thanks again.

Christine. :D
