Robert Britton - Which Ship Did He Sail On ?

Post by darylrodger » Tue Jan 22, 2019 6:33 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for my 3 x g grandfather Robert Britton, who apparently sailed to the USA in May 1842 and lived there till Aug 1844.
He lived in Twiggs Lane, New Sneddon St. Paisley, Renfrewshire at the time he left for the states. He also lived in Toronto, Canada too,
for 2 years, although I don't when he lived there.

Are there any ships passenger lists for the 1840's to the USA, which may show where he sailed too etc ?

Thanks,

Daryl

Hi Daryl,

The only Robert Britton I see who arrived as an adult around that time was one who arrived on 10 Aug 1843 in New York, age 30. The ship was the "Southerner" and sailed from Liverpool. Is this the right age for your ancestor?

The database is New York, Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957 on Ancestry.com

All the best,
Sarah
