ICI Nobel Division no longer exists in Stevenston.

It had a private quay with access via the river Irvine then into the mouth of the river Garnock. They would definitely need a pilot.

I don't know where the pilot was based, it could have been Ardrossan.

Nor do I know when the private quay was built.

In it's day the factory was the largest in europe, in terms of area. Not surprising when you think of what they made. It also had it's own internal railway system!

Jim again. Just had a thought regarding your James Cunningham.

Have you considered he may have sailed for Hogarth Shipping of Ardrossan, whose house flag shows two letters "H", hence the sobriquet "Hungry Hogarths"? All their vessels were named "Baron .....".

Yes i did consider that he may have sailed for Hogarth Shipping of Ardrossan i am waiting for some info to come back i will update you later if i get any thing back.
