Old man's Asylum, Glasgow ??

Post by annpa » Mon May 19, 2008 1:04 pm

Have just come across a new rellie who died in the "Old Man's Asylum" Glasgow in 1888. The district is given as Blackfriars. Anyone know anything about this old man's asylum??

Cheers

I've got someone who died in the Old Man's Home, Rottenrow. When my relly died in 1921 the district was Blythswood but in 1888 it could easily have been Blackfriars, which was a fairly short-lived district. I've not looked further into the home but I've a feeling that there may have been something on another thread a few months ago - maybe worth a search of the site.

That's the one Anne, thank you. I was in a rush (dental appointment!) when I did the reply otherwise I'd have done my own searching. I'm not sure about the extent of the Blackfriars district, or the time it was extant, but I think Rottenrow may well have come into it.

Thanks for all the help. I've been to the page suggested and there is some interesting stuff about it. Seems to have been a lot better than Barnhill.
Cheers all
