RIDDRIE PARK CEMETERY GLASGOW
Hello Folks,
Can anyone help me find two graves in this huge cemetery.I went there last week with a friend and we could't find either of them despite having the actual lair records for one and nothing at all for the other. The one that I personally am interested in locating is for a baby/infant named ELIZABETH MACMILLAN who died in 1910 or 1911.
Many thanks
Marion.

Marion if there are any gardeners there or council workers ask them as they will know especially if you have the lair no, or try in the house there.. I went looking in Dalbeth recently for an online friend and found it with the help of the office there ,and the gardeners who took me right to the plot. sadly no stone so nothing for this friend to actually see but still, it was there. good luck.. The gang leader Billy Fulton is buried in there in unmarked grave.

Hello,
There was a gardener there but he couldn't help me/us as he had no knowledge of the lairs or headstones. A computer disc search at the council offices in Trongate proved negative, but the older sister of the baby I'm searching for (now long gone herself) remembered going there to the cemetery for the burial. If it does not show up on the Glasgow Council list of burials then we assume the person has made a mistake in the cemetery name over time, which sounds reasonable. As for my friend, she even had the lair records with her of who she was searching for, but still we cound not find the actual grave only the section the lair was in. It's such a huge cemetery you do need someone there with lair maps and burial records to help you out. Thanks for your time and comments and I do hope to go back again with my friend soon and see what happens then.
cheers

Hi Marion,
When you found the Section - did you try looking for numbers on individual stones?
They're not always marked but if you can find two or three with numbers, you can usually get the 'gist' of how the numbers run.
Another 'hint' is - if you go to the CWGC site: http://www.cwgc.org/debt_of_honour.asp go to the pull down menu which says 'Search For' and change it to Cemeteries, then enter Glasgow, this will bring up all Glasgow Cemeteries containing CWGC Burials, choose Riddrie Park and this should take you to the Introductory Page for Riddrie Park.
If you then click 'Cemetery Reports', this will take you to all the burials arranged alphabetically. Go through them page by page until you find one (or more) in the same section as you've been looking at. The details of each grave is in the last column (Grave/Memorial Ref.) Sometimes it'll be written as 'Section X, Lair XXX, and sometimes just X, 123 - it just means the same thing.
A long way for a short cut, but at least you'd be able to identify one or two with definate numbers!
Obviously you'd then need to find the CWGC Lairs, but the biggest majority of them are the standard type which stick out anyway amongst the rest.
Photos of all the (found) War Graves in Riddrie Park are on the Scottish War Graves Site: http://scottishwargraves.phpbbweb.com/s ... ic140.html
Again, they're listed alphabetically, so you'd need to trawl through all the pages to find ones that you're looking for. On the positive side, you could copy the photos, print out pictures of the stones near to the location you're looking for and with a bit of luck, once you found them, pinpointing the exact lair you're looking for might be a bit easier.
Anne
P.S. Sounds a bit complicated, but it works for me!

Re: RIDDRIE PARK CEMETERY GLASGOW
Hello Anne,
Thanks for such a detailed answer to my quest. We did indeed find several headstones with numbers and we pursued the line right round and then started to just walk up and down the whole section. We even tried going over to the other sections to see how we could work out the numbers there but most stones do not have numbers now - all gone or have never been numbered at all. Also, the numbers were not in sequence when trying to work out a run of numbers...very confusing. Thanks again for the information.
cheers

There’s a telephone number, 0141 634 2122, that seems to crop up here and there. I’ve no idea where it is actually located or whether it is of any use. http://www.google.com.au/webhp?complete ... 365e379a51
I like Anne’s method.

Re: RIDDRIE PARK CEMETERY GLASGOW
HI I am trying to find my great grandmothers grave in Riddrie park. She died in 1929 can anyone give me an idea of where to start looking in the graveyard. I have been onto Glasgow city council and the Mitchell Library and they are currently uploading all the files to microfilm so they cannot give me a copy of the layers or section. Can anyone help.
Thanks
Suzie

http://www.memento-mori.co.uk and look at Riddrie Park's listing, there is a list of names from stones there. It won't tell you where the stone is, but may give you an idea if there IS [or was] a stone to be found.
They offer to send you a photo of the stone if they have recorded it too.
Could save you a fruitless trip.
