John St/Tullis St cemetery Glasgow.....

Post by alanjohn » Thu Sep 01, 2005 3:51 am

John St/Tullis St cemetery Glasgow
My great great grandfather was buried in this cemetery, which is closed, between 1837-1841. There is a memorial book at New Register house but it contains a fraction of the burials. Would there be any burial register for this cemetery?

Hello Christine,

I can't say I've ever heard of this cemetery but you could send enqiry to Glasgow City Council.

The Mitchell Library has a Cash Book, 1811 - 1846 and also an MI list from a survey done in 1957 (J.F. Mitchell)

The Archives (within the Mitchell) has a list of Lairholders, 1876 (Ref: DTC 6/319-0)

There's another which has been tarted-up fairly recently in Abercromby Street (Calton).

So the Abercromby St, Calton cemetery with the weavers monument is the same as the Bridgeton one? Pardon my confusion!

John street/Tullis street and Abercromby street cemeteries are 2 different locations within the Bridgeton district.
