Hi SarahND,
Well, i was very tempted not to look up David and Rachel in SP as i was sure i would be wasting my time and also i had only 3 credits left (5 needed to view). Am i glad i did!!!!
You were right it is the same David Beveridge. He married Rachel Mays 21/12/1886 both aged 21 his address is 57 Rumford St. Bridgeton. His parents match exactly. Also the same address is on my gt grandfather's birth cert. Only the fact he was named as the father has enabled me to clarify this. I don't think they ever married ( we always assumed he disappeared because she was pregnant) but now we know he didn't and was around 2 years after he was born.
Now you have filled in the rest for me regarding his family in America. I am eternally grateful to you as this has been bugging me for years. My father died in 1996 never knowing what happened to his grandfather.
What to do now - the family in America (maybe even his own wife didn't know anything about that part of his life).
Again many thanks to you.

Regards
Ailsa

Hi Ailsa,
\:D/ That's great news! You've finally got straight what happened to him.

I don't know how you feel about this, but I would be tempted to try to trace the family down and find living members. I have done so myself in a similar situation-- where one side of the family didn't know there was another side... and found everyone quite fascinated and welcoming. Enough time has passed that I would think the awkwardness would be over.

In the U.S. it is easier to find living people, since often someone who was a baby in the 1930 census is still living now. If you like, I will look for the children in the 1930 census to complete the picture. I have already downloaded the WWI draft registration cards for Thomas and Allan. I'll email them to you.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I still can't really believe it. I would appreciate you looking up the 1930 census as you say it would be interesting to know who is still there. I will of course let you know if i contact anyone.
As for the other David who died in Boston in 1885 it may have been an Uncle as there was an Uncle who was born 2/5/1839 in Dunfermline, Fife.
It just shows that it pays to keep looking even if it takes years to find. I am also looking at irish family and that is a nightmare but i will continue on and off probably for another 10 years!
Many thanks again,

Ailsa
