His parents were Isabella Black and William McNicol and he was born Bonhill, Alexandria. Did he marry and if so what was the date of his marriage and who did he marry and also DOD if possible and location. It says he was present on the death of Isabella McNicol in Feb 1885. I am trying to get back to my great grandparents and great gret grandparents if possible. It says that Isabella mother was called Black and there is a Isabella Alston Black Brown in the family. Tryintg to find out how Black fits into the family tree.

Matthew's death is easy for you to find on ScotlandsPeople. Search for Matthew M*nicol* (the asterisk wild cards allow for the 'regular' spelling variations of that surname). Set the birth year to 1857 ± 1 year. You will get only one result. The location makes good sense. Look at that death certificate and you will see the name of his wife. Armed with that information, you can easily find the marriage - again only one result (many miles from the groom's home parish).
