Hi once more Alan
1841 Census should read "Shellknowe, Ballantrae" and being Saltcoats bred myself "Panbrae" in the 1851 Census I know to be an extension of Quay Street.

Coincidentally, my paternal grandmother's family (MURRAY) also resided in Quay Street at the mid-late 1800s & she married a McCREADIE from another line of this same family.

A great-white in North Atlantic waters? I'd have thought it too cold for them but then I'm no fishologist :geek: .

Spirit Dealer makes sense.

Daniel Robertson was a seaman and both his Mates certificate and his Master's certificate are available on Ancestry.com.

Sp Dealer = Spirit Dealer

Confirmed on the instructions given to the 1841 census enumerators:

You could check Daniel and Lillias/Lillian's marriage cert. to see who her parents were. If they are the same as Margaret's, let us know and one of us can check the census records for the family in 1841 and 1851.

Thank you Carol.
Daniel ROBERTSON and Lillias DUNCAN married 13 June 1855 at Stevenston. Lillias is recorded as 27 years which, if accurate, indicates a DOB circa 1828 (location Unknown) while Margaret's DOB 1820-1821, Rothesay, Bute. Their parents were Archibald DUNCAN and Lilias CRAWFORD.

The census records have all three girls being born in Rothesay, Bute. The only birth record that I could find on Ancestry.com with those parents was for Catherine, 9 Jul 1818. Family Search might have the other two.
