My ggg grandfather William Hewitson died in Greenock in 1897. He death record states that he was 78 years old, which means he was born about 1819. All census records state that he was born in Troon Ayrshire. When checking for a birth record on SP it doesn’t give you the option of naming Troon as the place of birth. Can anyone tell me what other place would have been considered Troon in that time period?
Many thanks,
Ina

Re: Scotlandspeople OPR's
I could be wrong, but looking at the parish registers Troon comes under the Parish of Dundonald
The National Library of Scotland have OS 1" maps with coloured Parishes. So I had a look there and I was right it is in Dundonald

Re: Scotlandspeople OPR's
Thanks so much Jack, I'll check that out. SP doesn't show any births for Troon.
