:( :( :(
Hi again,
Can anyone suggest where I might find a birth certificate or some proof of Neil Campbell's birth about 1811 in Co. Londonderry?
He married in Barony Scotland 1833 and died in Glasgow 1858.
I have been trying to confirm his birth parents as Neil Campbell and Catherine Whitelaw. :( :( :(
Campbell/Whitelaw union had more children Robert B1820, Catherine B1823, Jane B1825 but cannot find birth or death records for any of these :?:
I have exhausted Scotlands People and also tried other forums and an Ulster site as well  without any luck.

Hi rubeaz
All I think you might be lucky enough to find would be a church record - to find this you would need to know which church his family was likely to have attended; RC, Church of Ireland, Methodist, Presbyterian etc and the place.
You can order some of the church films of church records through your local LDS centre.

If you have found a record of his marriage in the OPRs then the liklihood is that he was protestant.

I would have to say though that I have a few born in N.Ireland even in the early 1860s for whom no trace of a birth has been found so far. 1811 is quite early as far as Irish records are concerned - as far as I can see in "Tracing Your Irish Ancestors" by John Grenham, none of the RC baptism records go that far back in Londonderry, though you might have more luck if Protestant. You are very lucky he died in Scotland and you have been given the parent names.

Best wishes

:D Thanks Leslie,
I know that he was probably presbyterian and I will try the link you sent me.
Will let you know how I go :D
Thanks again.
PS
On the certificate I have, it says born Co.Londonderry. I assume that is in Ireland  ?
Cheers Kay

Hi Kay
Campbell/Whitelaw union had more children Robert B1820, Catherine B1823, Jane B1825 but cannot find birth or death records for any of these

Were any of the above born in Scotland, do you know, or have you perhaps seen them in a census?

On IGI I'm seeing the following children, Father: Neil Campbell, Mother: Catherine Whitelaw

(dates a couple of years out from those you gave which may have been estimates?)
  • CATHERINE CAMPBELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth 02 JUL 1825
Christening: 14 AUG 1825 Cathcart, Renfrew, Scotland

JANE CAMPBELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth 25 DEC 1827
Christening: 20 JAN 1828 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
- both the above are extracts, so should turn up on OPR records.

There is also the following submission (so may be correct, maybe not)
  • ROBERT CAMPBELL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 16 JUL 1820 Girvan, Ayr, Scotland
    Father: NIEL CAMPBELL
    Mother: CATHERINE WHITLOW
Best wishes
Lesley

:) Hi Lesley
These are Campbell/Whitelaw children. I have not been able to find them on the census. I obtained the OPR for Robert B1820 but not the girls. :?:
:? I think Campbell/Whitelaw would have both been born in Scotland but I am having so much trouble in finding that proof.
:D :D I have been able to find nearly all the info for my gg grandfather Neil B1811 M1833 and D1858 - son of Campbell/Whitelaw.
Beginning to think its too hard!!!
Regards Kay
Thanks for all you input anyway :)

Hi Kay
Sorry, I must have misunderstood, I thought you had not yet found births for these children.
I think Campbell/Whitelaw would have both been born in Scotland but I am having so much trouble in finding that proof.
Is there anything in particular that makes you think this?

I guessing you have already tried freecen for the 1841? I suppose there is always a chance that they had both died before 1841...

Best wishes
Lesley

I probably have not made myself clear Lesley - this mystery has tied me up in knots :?
My ancestors seemed to live mainly around Glasgow. GG grandfather Neil although he was born in Co. Londonderry he showed up in the census living in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.
GGG grandfather also Neil and Catherine's other children were born in Girvan and Barony? I assume these places are in Scotland.
Because I can't find them on the census 1841 I thought perhaps they may have died by then
I have appreciated your help but please don't worry too much. Maybe, this is as far as I can get :?
My best wishes Kay
