Re: Divorce in Scotland between 1974 and 1984
Hi goldenboy,
For pre-1984, prior to the setting up of the Divorce Register, a divorce was usually notified by an entry in the Register of Corrected Entries, as an amendment to the marriage certificate. In turn, the marriage certificate has a stamp mark applied to it to say that there is an RCE applicable to it. As it is an supplement to the marriage certificate, the marriage would have to have been in Scotland for the divorce to be appended to the certificate.
From a separate angle, there should be court papers for the divorce. These normally make their way to the National Registers of Scotland (previously to the National Archives of Scotland). However, I am unsure of the closure period of these documents. There should be information on the NRS website regarding that.
All the best,
AndrewP
