Help please
Hi TS,
I'm trying to tie up my McPhee/Wright search and as usual it's not easy - I'm trying to find the death for Alexander Biggar Wright. He was born 17/8/1839 to James Wright and Mary Robertson. The below is the possibilities i have found (other than he died in another country. This was my search Surname: 'Wright', Surname Option: 'Fuzzy', Forename: 'Alexander', Forename Option: 'Exact', From_year: '1892', To_year: '1909', Birth_year: '1839', Birth_year_range: '3' The reason for dates are Agnes Wright his wife died in 1908 'widow' living in Hutchesontown his son Malcolm died in 1893 - Alexander was the witness living at 91 Rutherglen Road Glasgow - therefore still alive. If i take away the last two with different middle names that leaves nine. Has anyone any suggestions?
Thanks
Ailsa

Re: Help please
Have you found Agnes on the 1901 census? is Alex with her then?
I found them on the 1881 census Alexander 41 Agnes 39 and Mary 8, Malcolm 6 and Lizzie 3 [Naburn Street. Barony] all Glasgow born.
What of Lizzie and Mary - have you got marriages for either of them and is their father noted as deceased ?
His occupation as an Iron moulder could mean he probably stayed in the central belt - Lanarkshire, Glasgow area and Stirlingshire were the main iron areas.

Re: Help please
Hi Wilma,
No i haven't got them on the 1901 census - too many to look at on SP. They aren't together on the 1891 census just Agnes as head. Could mean he was working away or they separated.
The daughters Lizzie and Mary are impossible to find as they probably married. I found these two both in Kelvin but seems far away from the Gorbals.

Re: Help please
Hi Ailsa,
It is difficult finding Agnes on Ancestry in 1901. The one Wilma found in Kelvin isn't coming up on a search so maybe mis-transcribed. The only one I can see is living in a female lodging house in Calton.
What address was given when she died?
Regards,
Annette
Later.....I see Catherine is a china dealer in 1891. The Agnes Wright who is staying at the lodging house in 1901 is a Dish Hawker.

Re: Help please
Found Alexander Sr. He died in Kelvin on July 10, 1897 in the Western (?) Infirmary. Son James was the witness. The handwriting on this cert. is difficult to read so I'll let you sort that out.

Re: Help please
Hi,
I was about to send a reply but it never went - then Carol's post came in. That's brilliant you found him. I will download it and try and decipher it. I was hesitant because I couldn't think why he would be in Kelvin but the age was spot on. Also Annette, Agnes died at 10 Gilmour st Gorbals and even if it was her in the 1901 census lodging house it wouldn't tell me much more.
I have James Wright in the valuation rolls at 10 Gilmour st in 1915 and 1920 but I'm not sure if it's father or son.
Great result! Thanks
Ailsa

Re: Help please
Hi again,
Usually i will take a chance and just download (as i done recently when i was sure it was Alex Wright Gorbals 1895) and it wasn't him. Not so sure i would have taken a chance with him in Kelvin. Thanks to help from TS i have him now.
He did indeed die from chronic bronchitis and heart problems at the Western Infirmary - his usual address was 21 Sydney St Glasgow. Son James of 4 Orchard St South is witness.
Now was that Agnes M E Wright in Kelvin 1901 his wife? what does ME stand for? The quest goes on.
Thanks again,
Ailsa

Re: Help please
Took a quick look at Ancestry.com. There was an Agnes ME Wright married to Adam Wright on the 1901 census. Don't have a clue what the initials would stand for.

Re: Help please
A look at the ScotlandsPeople index shows an Adam Wright marrying an Agnes Ellis in 1866 in Dundee. The death of an Agnes Wright, other surname Ellis, shows up in 1915 in Kelvin as Agnes Miller Wright, aged 77 years. It may be that she used her maiden surname as a second middle name.
All the best,
