Re: Help please
Hi All,
Thanks for the help - I'm now quite pleased to have the death certs of Alex and Agnes Wright. Today I've been looking for deaths for their son James Wright married to Mary Sheridan and a marriage or death for James and Mary's only son also James.
Carol kindly found them on the 1911 census at 130 Gilmour St Gorbals - James snr iron moulder 47 Mary 39 and James Jnr 18.
As there are so many James Wrights i looked for Mary and found her death in 1939 address 10 Gilmour St Gorbals. She was a widow and the witness was her brother in law James Currie. I traced the valuation rolls and she is on the 1925 and 1935 rolls but James is on the 1915 and 1920 all at 10 Gilmour St. Not sure which James it is though. If it's James senior it narrows his death between 1920 and 1925. The son is not a witness on her death cert so he may also have died. I'm hoping not in WW1 like his 3 cousins.
Again any ideas appreciated!

Re: Help please
Hi Ailsa,
Once more, playing a game of probability with the ScotlandsPeople index, I searched for the death of a James Wright between 1911 and 1939, with a birth year of 1864 ± 2 years in a registration district within the City of Glasgow gives the following 9 results.
JAMES WRIGHT, 49
1912, 654/ 35, Rutherglen
JAMES WRIGHT, 59
1921, 644/21 582, Govan
JAMES WRIGHT, 59
1923, 644/16 95, Govanhill
JAMES WRIGHT, 59
1924, 644/4 1197, Dennistoun
JAMES WRIGHT, 61
1925, 644/15 113, Hutchesontown
ROBERT JAMES WRIGHT, 64
1926, 644/21 644, Govan
JAMES WRIGHT, 61
1926, 644/13 239, Kelvin
JAMES WRIGHT, 64
1927, 644/6 946, Springburn
JAMES WRIGHT, 70
1933, 644/23 555, Scotstoun and Yoker
If I was picking on a first one to consider, it would be the 1921 death in Govan, aged 59 years.
From the posts on this thread, you have learned that there is a major hospital in Kelvin RD. As I recall, another of the major hospitals (Stobhill) is in Springburn district. You may wish to consider that if the 1921 death in Govan is not him.
That all assumes he died in Glasgow...
All the best,
AndrewP

You are right about the hospital in Springburn though. I'll have a think.
Thanks!

Re: Help please
Hi,
I have just logged in to SP about to decide which James Wright to download - then thought i better check back on TS - glad i did! I would have probably downloaded them both anyway but Carol saved me 6 credits - thanks. He died of Nephritis and vascular disease of the heart. It shows how important the valuation rolls can be. James was there in 1920 but Mary was the head in 1925 - as long as they stay at the same address it can be useful and only 2 credits!
Now to look for the son James - i was hoping he would be the witness for one of them. His last sighting is on the 1911 census age 18.
After that the only 2 left are Mary and Elizabeth daughters of Alexander and Agnes and i think that may be difficult.
Regards

Re: Help please
Hi Ailsa,
I've been looking around for Mary and Elizabeth too with no luck. Of course, if they married, they are probably hiding in plain sight! I did find one Elizabeth whose mother's maiden name was McCallum, but she was up in Lockgilphead and from the looks of the records on Ancestry she isn't yours. James the son is going to be harder to find. His name is just too common.
Good luck with your search.
Carol

Re: Help please
Thanks Carol,
I think you are right about the girls - unless I'm very lucky and i come across something in my records.
You and the other people on SP have been a great help. Thank you once again,
Ailsa

Re: Help please
Hi,
Back again - I am looking at the only male left in the Wright line - son James. I know there are hundreds but i have narrowed it down to a guess that he may have married between 1911 and 1925 (his father died in 1925 i would have thought the son would have been the witness. In this case it's his wife Mary. As they don't seem to move around much i have only selected Govan or Gorbals. His mother is Mary Wright m.s Sheridan and father James Wright.
If anyone is looking for something to do and has access to ancestry etc could they look at the following marriages please?
WRIGHT JAMES MANN VIOLET 1921 644/17 348 Gorbals
WRIGHT JAMES WELCH ELIZABETH 1919 644/17 268 Gorbals
WRIGHT JAMES HALEN AGNES 1917 644/21 27 Govan
WRIGHT JAMES LAWSON AGNES 1917 644/21 27 Govan
WRIGHT JAMES MARSHALL ANNIE 1913 644/17 190 Gorbals
WRIGHT JAMES TURNER CATHERINE 1917 644/17 341 Gorbals
WRIGHT JAMES BROWN CATHERINE KILGO 1922 644/17 300 Gorbals
Thanks,
Ailsa

Re: Help please
Carol - You absolute star thank you very much. I've had a trawl through the Commonwealth Graves (as it is coming up to WW1 and he fits the age perfectly ) I can't find anyone that fits him yet so maybe he either came back or died before it started. Now i have a new lead thanks to you.
