Thomson, William
I am searching for the death certificate of my great grandfather, William THOMSON. William was born 23 Oct 1870 in Paisley, Renfrewshire to James Thomson and Agnes McCree. He became a widower in 1907 after the death of his wife Elena in Paisley. He was residing at 5 Harmony Row in Govan, Lanarkshire in 1923. He was a witness at his son's wedding in 1925 at Leeds, Yorkshire. The city directory in 1927 has him still listed at 5 Harmony Row, Govan. I tried ScotlandsPeople but too many Thomson's listed as his mothers maiden name was not recorded. I have reached a brick wall and hoping someone can help me find when and where William Thomson died. Regards, Glenda

Re: Thomson, William
I had a look at the valuation rolls for Harmony Row.
There are William Thomsons listed living at various houses there, but none of them in number 5
1915 and in 1920 there are 2 - numbers 100 & 114 Harmony Row
in 1925 there are 3 - numbers 57, 158 & 100
1930 numbers 100, 134 & 158
and in 1935 numbers 100 and 158 are still occupied by William Thomson[s]
There are only 2 death entries for a William Thompson of that age group in Govan:
WILLIAM SHENNAN THOMSON IN 1931
and plain WILLIAM THOMSON IN 1936
have you looked at either of those?
Another route could be a gravestone - do you know where his wife was buried? presumably he would be buried in the same lair.

Re: Thomson, William
The 1941/42 Glasgow Directory has a W. Thomson at 5 Harmony Row. This appears to be the latest available online directory. https://archive.org/details/postofficea ... s/page/982
Also a John Thomson, pawnbroker, has that address. It's probably his business address as what is presumably home address of Port-Glasgow road Kilmacolm is also shown. (bottom of 2nd column page 594.) https://archive.org/details/postofficea ... s/page/594
Sometimes directory entries continued for a while after a death.

Re: Thomson, William
In 1935 at 5 Harmony Row there was a Mrs Alice M P Thomson and John Thomson. As well as a William in 1935 there was a James Thomson at 100 Harmony Row.
In 1936 James is on his own at 100 Harmony Row. So a fair chance that the William who died in 1936 is the one who stayed at 100 Harmony Row.

Annette
