I have a death certificate for someone who died in Saline Fife in 1894. Their home address is given as Pitlochry but the death is registered in Perth. Can anyone explain that for me please?
Secondly, if 7 (out of 10) children of a couple have no birth records in the OPR on ScotlandsPeople, should I presume they are non-conformist? And how can I find out?
Grateful for any help here. I'm struggling with my Scottish branch!

In hospital, or staying with a relative?garibaldired wrote:I have a death certificate for someone who died in Saline Fife in 1894. Their home address is given as Pitlochry but the death is registered in Perth. Can anyone explain that for me please?
The probability of being non-conformist certainly increases, but you can't rule out that the records were never made, or were made in the Established Church of Scotland, but haven't survived.garibaldired wrote:Secondly, if 7 (out of 10) children of a couple have no birth records in the OPR on ScotlandsPeople, should I presume they are non-conformist? Re two questions
The person was staying with her brother and family.
Does this make a difference?
How would I find what chapels were in that area? And where would their records be held?
Thanks for your help, David.

Yes, if the person was regarded as ordinarily resident in Perth.garibaldired wrote:The person was staying with her brother and family.

Perth: St Johns; and Our Lady of Perpetual Succourgaribaldired wrote:How would I find what chapels were in that area? And where would their records be held?

Blairgowrie: St Stephen
Crieff: St Fillan
Ballechin: Holy Cross (close to Pitlochry?)
Aberfeldy: Our Lady of Mercy
Alyth: St Luan
Auchterarder: Our Lady of Perpetual Succour
Tullymet: Our Lady of Good Aid
There's a few more, but they were either family chapels, were served from elsewhere, or have no known extant records.
Taken from Michael Gandy's "Catholic Missions and Registers 1700 - 1880: Vol 6 - Scotland"
NAS in Edinburgh should have copies of any pre-1855 registers, but for later records you may need to contact the local priest, or the Diocesan Archivist for the Diocese of Dunkeld - see http://www.dunkelddiocese.org.uk/curial.htm
