Thanks for the information and thank you once again for taking the time to have a look. The information is really useful. The missing children now makes me believe that the father Hugh and 3 of his children could have died around the same time. Definitely Hugh and his daughter Janet died in 1842 so it could be that his sons Hugh and Thomas died then too.
The poorhouse applications appear to be a very good source of information. I know of at least two other relatives who died in the poorhouse (one in Merryflats, Govan and one in Hawkhead, Paisley) so I will chase up those two as well.
Cheers
Rab.

I just wanted to quickly update this for anyone looking for anything similar.
Although I had no luck in this area I found it a very good suggestion. I contacted the Duty Archivist and she was very helfpul. They conducted a half hour search free of charge and even though it did not turn up what I was looking for I appreciated the effort. I was also informed about the full search and costs which I may do sometime in the future.lbathgate wrote:GUAS (Glasgow University Archives) hold the records for Wylie and Lochead, undertakers, who were "popular" in that area, and dealt with the burial in my family I mentioned above, so maybe try the Duty Archivist there and check out:
