:D WOW that's a lot of info on the birth cert. for Thomas Jr. It gives parents' marriage as Dec. 2/1852, I'll have another look and see whether there is more info on their marriage.
Thomas Sr. seems to have been born in 1831 - however I take that with a pinch of salt as in every census he has a different dob!
Thank you all for your help :D

But only in 1855

I'd read it as 3 December, actually!

Whether or not his age of 24 is correct (which could also mean a year of birth of 1830) at least you now also have his place of birth, which looks like Kilmarnock, - can't recall what later censuses say, - as there's also a Kilmaronock in Argyll.

David,

Carmentea32 has another post re Thomas senior's birth around 1830.
I had a look on the Hugh Wallis site and it appears to be only females recorded at that time.
Am I right in saying that his birth may be on the actual OPR film?

Regards,
Annette M

Yes, every chance, and not only on the film, but on the IGI microfiches.

aaargh the local FRC has some sort of feud going on with civil registry here, so no records are available to the general public (or at least it was so the last time I went there) - my research is limited to the internet unfortunately.

anyhoo, I've searched for all samson children born within a 20 year range of Thomas Sr' s parents marriage c. 1829 and have come up with nothing. Surely at least ONE child would have appeared?

Thomas Sr. has always given his place of birth (on census and death cert) as Kilmarnock - but maybe he went there when he was small.
