IGI Marriage Puzzle? .....

Hi Meg,

I was looking for Vickers names, and found your posting. I have Janet/Jean Vickers and James Dobie in my tree. I have their marriage as 28 Feb 1846 Cockpen. Janet was christened 20 July 1824 Cockpen, daughter of William Vickers & Helen Selkirk (their grandson Robert Flockhart Vickers married Esther Hare - a distant cousin of mine).
I have a wee bit more info on the Vickers family if you're interested.

Thanks for that! I now have some of it sorted - thankfully - and know that James and Janet McVickers Dobie emigrated to Australia along with James' brother, Thomas. I'm not absolutely 100% that he is "my" James but their children's names are pretty conclusive. For instance there is a set of twins named John & Hannah, just like James' twin siblings.

I'd be really grateful for any other information you have. From BMD records in Australia it seems James was a gold miner? And the name seems to have settled as Dobbie?

Hi Meg,

I had no idea they went to Australia. Do you have any idea when they went to Oz? I only have three children for them, James, William & John. James Dobbie's mother's name was Hannah York (Hanny on IGI). It sure sounds like the same people.
