I am looking at the family of John Lockhart and Elizabeth McKenzie.
They had at least five children.
Mary, John, William, Phillis and Agnes
On at least two of the childrens' BC they are registered as illegitimate.
In the 1881 census (Edinburgh St Cuthberts) Elizabeth Mckenzie with two of the children Phillis Lockhart and Agnes Lockhart
In the 1891 census (Edinburgh George Squ) Elizabeth Lockhart now described as a widow with her daughter Phillis and a grandson.
On Elizabeth's DC 1894 she is described as Widow of John Lochart ---
My problem is I cannot find a MC for John amd Elizabeth, nor a DC for John.
Any help advice woild be appreciated.
Frances

Assuming that there wasn't a child after John, then they may never have married as his birth register entry show him as illegitimate.
I assume that you have the 1871 census showing the 44 yr old John, Mar[ried], with 4 daughters and 1 son, and an unmarried boarder, Elizabeth McKENZIE, 39 yrs old, Housekeeper !
John's death most probably shows up in 1879, reported by daughter Phillis, John's age exactly matching that shown in the 1871 census, and, critically, as married to Rachel MURRAY, a very good reason for his never having married Elizabeth McKENZIE !

Rachel is with wee James 'Lochart' in the household in 1851 at Kinross.
