Hello Everyone
I have come to the conclusion that my 2 x great grandfather was created not born. The 1861 and 1871 censuses both state that he was born in Kilmarnock Ayrshire.
He would be born about 1826 his parents are William and Elizabeth Muir m.s McCutchie. I have his marriage and death certs but cannot fin his birth no matter what I try on SP and that is looking for the whole od Scotland. Can anynoehelp please?
Heather

Hi Heather
Any evidence at all that the family were members of a secession church ?
Given the size of Killie I'd suspect that there was at least one, probably a few, such congregations.
These records are, largely, not included in the OPR records so not accessible via SP.
Worth a look at IGI on FamilySearch.org, as there seem to be an increasing number of secession church records included there (could just be my impression, but I've seen many more such source references in the last few months that I can ever remember from before) ................
To establish just which secession congregations there were in your timeframe, have look at the entry for Kilmarnock in both the Old and New Statistical Accounts on-line at www.edina.ac.uk/statacc/
National and local directories and gazetteers could also help.

Hello David
I don't have any evidence that they belong to a (secession.... added by the moderator) church and the IGI only give his 2 marriages and the sons birth who was named after him. Thanks for the site I will have a look at it and see what it can tell me.

Unless IGI notes that there was a secession church involved, it can be assumed the records are from the Established Church of Scotland records.angel wrote:Hello David

But then, that's not to mean that the parents didn't change the church where they worshipped .............

Hi again Daivd
What I forgot to say was that from 1851 Murdoch spent his life in Glasgow. He married there had his cildren and died there too. I don't know if the parents even came from there or even married there. All I know fro sure that murdoch was born Kilmarnock.

Hello
I have just remembered that I have Murdochs 2nd marriage on SP so I looked at it and it says that " according to the forms of the United Presterbyian Church" so maybe he was brought up in that church. The wedding took place in Glasgow.

Hello David
I had forgot about people marrying in the brides church but at least I now know which church the bride was associated with it may help me find her birth. Maybe when the 1841 census comes on line I may be able to fin the family although I need the 1851 too as that will tell me where the parents were born. Who said patience was a vitrue.
Just another
to overcome.
