Peterhead, Aberdeen .....

Post by nelmit » Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:09 pm

Hi All,

If anyone has access to OPR's for Peterhead I'd be grateful if you could have a look at the marriage entry of George Murray and Mary Davidson on 8th December 1853. I know all about Mary and their children but nothing about my GG Grandfather George except he was a seaman who died before 1866.

I'm hoping the marriage entry may give an age or place of birth.

Regards,
Annette M

Hi Annette

Have checked my Parish Records CD, unfortunately no Peterhead marraiges.

I'm sure you'll already have this, but looks like their first son (no name!):

Murray George, a seaman in Peterhead and Mary Davidson, his wife, a son, born-bap 28 Sep 1854, before William Saunders and William Murray.

Sorry couldn't help more.

Regards

Ellen.
Researching: Grant; MacIntosh; Wright; Parley; Souter; Jaffray; Sangster; all North East & Speyside and Sutherland, Glasgow then Sutherland County; Buchanan, Stirlingshire; Lamond, North East; Stronach, Morayshire to name but a few!

Ellen,

Please don't apologise, I can actually feel some bricks loosening from this wall with that little piece of information!!! :D

The christening was of my Great Grandfather George. I have never been able to find any information on his father except he was a seaman and was dead when his son James was born in 1866.

At the top of my list of maybes was a George Murray born 1831 to John Murray and Sarah Taylor. John died before 1857 and Sarah died in the poorhouse in 1887.
After I read your post I searched for the birth of a William Murray in Peterhead who could be of an age to be a Godfather in 1854 and I found a William Saunders Murray born 1833, parents John Murray and Sarah Taylor.
This William Murray, a seaman, drowned in 1857. The death was registered by Alexander Simpson, Shipmaster of the Eclipse.

I am more than ever convinced I have the correct birth of George but may never be able to confirm it as his death is not registered on SP.

Thanks again Ellen I really appreciate the help.

Best Wishes,
Annette M
