Hit a wall with Robert CURRIE & Agnes VEITCH.....

Post by Fiona » Sat Apr 01, 2006 1:22 pm

Hi

Hope you can help, this is my first posting, and with the help of Scotlands People site I have gleened loads of information about my family, but as with all these things, you finally reach a point where you need a bit more help.

Robert CURRIE & Agnes VEITCH, had a son Robert CURRIE born Sept 1811 in Edinburgh (who was my GG Grandfather). I cannot find any more about Robert and Agnes. I have found a marriage listing a Robert CURRIE & Ann VEITCH 8/10/1802 in Canongate, Edinburgh, which is the only marriage I have found listing a CURRIE & VEITCH, do you think it could be them, with possibly a typo, in the transcribing of the data? It's one of the ones you have to order to see it, and I've already spent a small fortune using SP's site (I'm dreading the CC bill next month!), especially when I've gone up the wrong family line a few times. Robert Currie was listed as a marble cutter on his son's death certificate.

Any help gratefully received, and if you are tracing the same line, I do have lots of info to share.

Hi Fiona
and a warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D

You should be able to order the OPR film containing the record you are interested in from your local LDS Family History Centre for a small charge if yoiu are nowhere near Edinburgh. Be aware though, that OPRs can be pretty brief with the information so you may be none the wiser even after seeing it!
e.g. Roseneath, Dumbarton
17th January 1823 Archibald McNicol residing in the Parish of Bonhill and Margaret McKenzie in this enrolled their names for proclamation to marriage. They being three several times proclaimed in two days and no objections offered were married here by the Rvd. R Story on 27th same month.

Researching:
Midlothian & Fife - Goalen, Lawrie, Ewart, Nimmo, Jamieson, Dick, Ballingall.
Dunbartonshire- Mcnicol, Davy, Guy, McCunn, McKenzie.
Ayrshire- Lyon, Parker, Mitchell, Fraser.
Easter Ross- McCulloch, Smith, Ross, Duff, Rose.

Hi Fiona,

Welcome to TalkingScot!

For what it's worth. I have Ann's in my lines where their name seems to interchange between Anne/Agnes/Nan/Nancy on different records, so it's very likely your Ann Veitch and Agnes Veitch are one and the same.

Lesley as usual gives you good advice regarding the likelyhood of additional information that might/might not show up on the OPR record. I recently had my first view of OPR records that I'd ordered from LDS only to find their wasn't any additional info on any of the records.

Regards,
AnneH

Thanks to you both; I'm beginning to think that Agnes and Ann may be one and the same, as the dates do seem to tally. I think I now need to see sight of the birth certificate to be sure, and also the marriage at Canongate on 8/10/1802. Agnes is a name which features with the further generations of the family.

I have a date booked at my local LDS centre, later this month, so will order the films then, we're also planning a family holiday to Scotland this year, so I need to find a day to spend at the office in Edinburgh.

Thanks for the welcome to the site, I'll keep you posted!

In the mean time if anyone does have anything which could help, please let me know.

Fiona
