poor house birth .....

I have details from Poor Law Records that my g Aunt had a son born in Barnhill Poorhouse Glasgow as far as i,m aware he was adopted by my Grandparents my grandfather being her brother and the child who i knew as my Uncle details were also given as to the father but checking out births under all names possible there are no records does anyone know if there are any other records i could check maybe by using the mothers name as I dont know what name the child was given at birth

Hi there

If you post the names and dates (if you feel able to do that) someone might be able to help. I would look under the mother's maiden name as that is the surname he was almost certainly registered under.

Thank you for your reply but i have checked out at Park circus under the mothers name and the fathers name but there is nothing before finding info on the poor law records i knew my uncle was not my fathers natural brother as he had told me he was really his cousin it was when I checked out the poor law records when i came accross his birth all names were shortened to eliz and wm also the fathers name in full but states he was killed in a jealous battle but on checking out death records on his name i only found one who was a married man who died of natural causes possible she made this story up for the sake of claiming benefits It is a real mystery
