Mathew Rea (Rae) and Elisabeth Clark (Clarke) .....

Post by Maggie64 » Thu Apr 06, 2006 3:15 pm

I need information on my ggggg grandparents Mathew Rea (Rae) and Elisabeth Clark were married in Dundee, Scotland on December 28 1787.
I do not know how many children they have.

But I know I just found two children
Isabella Rae (who was my gggg grandmother) she was born in c1800 and was married to Edward Brennan who was private soldier with 88th regiment Connaught Rangers. I found on census 1851 Montrose that she was born in Kincardine, Dunnottar.

Also I found her brother Alexander who was born in same birthplace as Isabella, he was born in June 1804.

Please let me know if you know more about this Rae/Rea family.

Also Elisabeth Clark's brother John was present at parish church the baptism was presented for Alexander Rae in 1804.

Any information on Rae or Clark please contact me thank you Margaret

Hullo Margaret

Sorry you've had to wait so long for a response to your post.

Don't know whether the following will help but it might be worth looking in to.

I searched for births, listed on Hugh Wallis's site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis for Donottar, Kincardine, within a likely age range for Isabel and Alexander's siblings. .
There is a James RAE b. 15 March 1796 in Dunotter, father Mathew Rae.
Also an Alex REA (yours?) b. 5th juin 1804 in Dunottar, father Mathew Rea. Both are extracted records.

I then looked for likely/possible marriages. There are four.
1. Jane RAE to John RITCHIE Marriage: 07 AUG 1836 Dunnottar, Kincardine, Scotland
2. James RAE to Ann FARQUHARSON Marriage: 06 AUG 1843 Dunnottar, Kincardine, Scotland
3. May RHAE To Adam FORBES Marriage: 24 NOV 1821 Dunnottar, Kincardine, Scotland
4. Isabel RAE to Robert BRUCE Marriage: 25 AUG 1833 Dunnottar, Kincardine, Scotland

They are all extracted records too. It may be well worth your while investigating these RAEs.

On the Scotlands People site, www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ I looked for deaths for the women from the above marriages. There is 1 hit for the deaths of a May Rae/Forbes; a Jane Rae/Ritchie and an Ann Farquharson/Rae
Being able to search for a wife's death using both maiden and surnames is a great help.Once you have, hopefully, the
parents names from these death entries, you will know whether these are siblings of your RAEs or not.

Do let us know what you find.

Best wishes
Catriona
