Looking for further info on a marriage of Robert Meldrum born abt 1829 Farm, to a Jane/Jean Birell.
Married abot 4 jun 1853 Scoonie Fife.
on the 1881 census Robert is living with his grandmother Margaret Meldrum 74 years old born Pittenweem.
Children are James Meldrum 1858
Jane born 1861
Mary 1865
Margaret 1868
Any info would be great to locate his parents as it says his parents ? might be a Jean Scott and Thomas Meldrum but not yet confirmed this as the only one i found is to old and obviously doesn't fit if grandmother was born approx 1777

Hi Sheryl
Have you tried looking for Robert's death on SP? That should give his parents' names. You know he was still alive in 1881, so that narrows it down a bit. Might be worth a look as Meldrum is not so frequent a name.
There appears to be Robert Meldrum on SP ( born 1829 +/- 3yrs) who died in Fife in 1900 but I don't have enough credits to check it.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Sheryl,
The online IGI gives these five children as the offspring of Robert Meldrum and Jane/Jean Birrell. Their birth certificates should be available on ScotlandsPeople.
ANN MELDRUM - Birth: 19 DEC 1856 Scoonie, Fife
JAMES MELDRUM - Birth: 07 OCT 1858 Scoonie, Fife
JANE MELDRUM - Birth: 16 OCT 1861 Scoonie, Fife
MARY MELDRUM - Birth: 07 JAN 1865 Scoonie, Fife
MARGARET BOWMAN MELDRUM - Birth: 17 JAN 1868 Scoonie, Fife
Have you looked at the death certificate for a Robert Meldrum, aged 72 in 1900 in Scoonie Fife? These details from the free search on ScotlandsPeople make this one a good likelihood, and should be worth your committing the credits to.
Also using the free search on ScotlandsPeople, a good candidate for Jane/Jean (listed as Jane) Birrell/Meldrum in Scoonie, Fife; is aged 59 in 1884.
Assuming these two are the right ones, you should get their parents' names on these two certificates.
The Ann Meldrum marriage in 1886 in Scoonie should be worth a look.
There should be enough information there to aid searches in the 1861 to 1901 censuses at ScotlandsPeople; and with a bit more work, the 1841 and 1851 censuses prior to their marriage.
All the best,
AndrewP
