looking for the right birth in collessie Fife .....
I am looking for a Robert Meldrum born about 1828 in Collessie, Fife
His death certificate in 1900 states that his parents were James Meldrum and Jean Scott.
I have searched and only found a Jean Scott and Thomas Meldrum in Leuchars but futher searching says this is not the parents. as they both died in the 1840 and 1840.
Jean Scott (widow) obviously used her maiden name was Living with Robert Meldrum and his wife and family in 1881 and her age was 73 years old and that she was born in Collessie.
Here is what the 1851 census said.
Meldrum Robert Head M 22 Agricultural Labourer Fife Collessie Scoonie Silver Hole Hamlet
Meldrum Margaret Gr Mother Wid 74 Fife Pittenweem Scoonie
Any further light on him would be great.

Hi
Have you looked at the IGI on the LDS site, there is a whole family of Meldrums to this couple unfortunately they are submissions so you would have to make up your own mind.. If you have Robert's siblings names that might help you decided if they are yours.
Regards
Bertha
PS The same children are also under Thomas & Jean Scott as submissions and extracts

Robert Meldrum
Thanks i saw those too but that is the wrong robert as i have his mother still alive in 1881 and i researched and that Jean Scott was born in 178? far to early for mine.
His mother was born in 1808.
without his birth i am having lots of trouble getting the right family.
Only other option is to have someone look at his marriage to Jean Birrell in 4 June 1853 in the OPR. Pity it wasn't 2 years later much better info.

Hi Sheryl
Best wishes
Lesley
Later - OK, maybe it does exist!
Seems to be mentioned here too http://members.aol.com/Genscot1/Page24.html
This strikes me as odd, it just doesn't look quite right - Silver Hole Hamlet doesn't look to me like a Fife place name, though I may be wrong. Hamlet is also not a word generally used round here. Do you have the original image? I'd be interested to see the writing.Fife Collessie Scoonie Silver Hole Hamlet
Best wishes

Easter Ross- McCulloch, Smith, Ross, Duff, Rose.

Hi Sheryl
There certianly are inteesting looking Meldrums on the IGI but they seem to be very much a Leuchars family. However, they seem to be all submissions, so may not be accurate.
Whereas the family you are looking for are sticking to their story of being from Collessie - in the 1881:
The marriage you mentioned turns up in two parishes (quite normal - the bride and groom were from different parishes and the banns would have been read in both) -
ROBERT MELDRUM
Marriages:
Spouse: JANE BIRREL
Marriage: 04 JUN 1853 Scoonie, Fife, Scotland
and
ROBERT MELDRUM
Marriages:
Spouse: JANE BIRRELL
Marriage: 22 MAY 1853 Kettle, Fife, Scotland
- both are extracts. Kettle parish is just south of Collessie.
It is pretty unlikley though that either OPR mention would give Robert's parents' names.
Best wishes
Lesley

Need a break on his parents
How do i go about finding out for sure who is parents are being that the marriage in 1853. Is anyone able to look at the OPR and see if it is worth buying. As it is not available for viewing on Scotlands people.
Here in Adelaide, South Australia i am able to go to local library the main one for each council and look at the BDM first hand no cost involved. Do you have a similar setup in Fife?
Here is the information.
Not sure which one/or both as they lived in both parishes. I think this is the same person and it is just registered twice.
I wish i could find out the parents

Unlikely that either is a marriage entry, much more likely that it's a record of the posting of the Banns, since both parties came from different parishes the Banns would be recorded in both places, apart from the fee charged (usually an unhealthy percentage of a weekly wage) the only other information generally posted is "Of this Parish" or "Not of this Parish".
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).
Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
