Fife Burials lookup, please? .....

Post by elisabeth » Tue Jun 20, 2006 7:26 am

I've already posted this on Rootschat without success so I'm hoping someone here has access to the Fife Burials Index.
I'm looking for Margaret Inglis/Ingles who was married to James Chalmers-they had their last child in Dairsie in 1822 and James is on his own in Clackmannan in 1841. Also looking for James Chalmers parents,David and Betty( maiden name Barron) and their children Euphan, born Flisk 1786, William, born Flisk 1793 and Betty, born Monimail 1801 .Their other child David also ended up in Clackmannanshire. There is no sign of Margaret Inglis in the Clackmannan Burial Index.

Thank you,
Elisabeth

Dear Elisabeth

I've had a quick look in the Fife deaths CD and can't find any of your people. I've looked for the names Chalmers (with 14 different spellings! - see below), Inglis/Ingles and Bar(r)on, in Dairsie, Dunbog, Flisk and Monimail, all without success.

A quick look on the IGI also shows a son James Chalmers for David Chalmers and Betty Bar(r)on, born 2/4/1790.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Perhaps someone else will have more luck than me.

Liz

(just for your info, in case it helps elsewhere with searching, I found the following variations of spelling for Chalmers:- Chalmers, Chalmars, Chalmbars, Chalmbers, Chalmer, Chalmers, Chalmours, Chalners, Chamars, Chambars, Chambers, Chamers, Chammers, Chamours - note that via the dodgy spelling you actually get Chambers as Chalmers on occasion - I've got an instance of this in my own family with a Euphan/Anne Chalmers/Chambers)
Fife: Nicolson, Cornfoot, Walker, Gibson, Balsillie, Galt, Elder
NE Scot: Nicolson, Lindsay, Haliburton, Ross
Edin & Central: Nicolson, Blaikie, Stevenson, Ross, Hotchkiss, Suttie, Christie, Clelland, Gray, Purvis, Lang, Dickson
Ross & Cromarty: Ross

Thanks for your efforts, Liz. These Chalmers seem to be determined to give away as little as possible. ](*,)
