Generic kids? .....

Post by Dennis » Sun Jun 25, 2006 6:06 pm

Hi:)

I was looking on IGI for children of the couple David Bowman & Ann Laing who married Nov. 27, 1830 in Lochlee, Angus . Three (3) results came back two (2) for the same date Feb. 22 1831 in Lochlee, Angus and another May 8, 1833 in Lochlee, Angus; however, there are no firstnames for the children.
SP doesn't give me a death for Ann Bowman (nee Laing) but she is listed as deceased on the Dec. 1, 1865 marriage for James Bowman ( age 31) and Mary Gibson (age 28 ).

Hi Dennis
Just guessing here, but I wonder if the missing names in those extracts are due to the OPR being one of those which just say something along the lines of:
"Was born a son to David Bowman & Ann Laing and christened the 8th of this month"
- or similar. Might be twins in 1831 - one male, one female. Or could just be an ealrier child being christened on the same day as a newer baby. Maybe catch them in the '41 census? (if they all survived)

Best wishes
Lesley

Dennis,
I have one family who didn't name one of their children as she died 3 days later.
It seems a bit sad that they didn't give her a name.
