Kilmonivaig parish help .....

Post by Davie » Sun Jul 09, 2006 2:25 pm

Hi all
I was looking for family on SP in the Parish of Kilmonivaig.
The OPR shows plenty of McNaughton's, Campbell's and McGregors up to the 1850s.
However there are no records of any McNaughtons and very few others on the hatches matches and dispatches in the Stats.
Any explanation?
Anyone

Hi Davie

Yup you're right.....nary a M*cN*t*n B M or D in Kilmonivaig after 1855. Guess that means they moved on. A look at this website suggests there were some that emigrated to Canada...... http://www.geocities.com/mcnaughtonofdu ... record.htm

...and I hope this site isn't your own creation

Best wishes
Jean

Greetin's Jean.
Tropical here in the Second City the day.
I know Thomas' Dunderave site well.
Thanks for huvin' a wee gander furr me oanywey.
My wee poser is. that Kilmonivaig was one of the largest Parishes, regarding area, nearly 60 miles by 30.
On the OPR there appear to be numerous McNaughtons, McGregors, McKinnons and Campbell's.
However, the Stats show so few of the above families.
I can see no historical records of any reason why most of them vanished.
Nothing on "The Clearances" or any other reason that I can see.
Once again thanks tae yersel and Lesley furr yer efforts
Awrabest
