Name of town??? .....

Post by Alice Bradford » Tue Jul 25, 2006 5:07 am

Hi,
How do I find the name of this town? On the OPR it looks like Mullireynow. It is in Lanarkshire. Maybe the "M" is a "W".
Thanks,
Alice

Hi Alice
Which Parish did it fall in? Places names on OPRs can be farms or similar too, so it kinda depends on the area this place is in.

If it doesn't ring a bell with anyone, might be worthwhile uploading a copy of the OPR page to the gallery & we can have a look at the handwriting. (But maybe you've seen it on film & don't have a printout?)

Best wishes
Lesley

There's a whole series of places on Lanarkshire ending in [k]now[e], -
the closest I can come is Lanzieknowe, in Cambuslang, and Moatknow in Biggar.

Hi all
From what Alice said in a message it looks like the place is in Old Monkland parish - don't know if this helps, but should narrow it down a bit.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Alice and all.
It would be interesting to find out any neighbours.
I know Airdrie and Coatbridge well, and would think, Like Lesley, it would have been the name of a cottage or farm.
