Hi Maggie
Not sure where you are situated, so aplogies if you are in the wilds somwhere
, but if you are near any LDS centre
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp
you can order in an OPR or a small cost - sometimes seeing the original (or as near as you are going to get!) yourself is much better than someone else's transcription. It also gives you an opportunity to have a look at the entries for the area they lived in and get a feel for the place and the people. Well worth doing in my opinion.
Best wishes
Lesley

Re OPR marriage Oliver & Galbreath
Hi Maggie,
Here's what it says - though no actual marriage date.
But other couples on the same page (and those previous) didn't have one either.
The minister started to record actual marriage dates sometime after November.
--
OPR 530. Volume 2. Page 123. Marriages. North Knapdale.
16 NOV 1833.
"James OLIVER residing in the parish of Irvine and
Mary GALBREATH in this parish of North Knapdale
gave their names on this date in order to be proclaimed for marriage.
They were therefore regularly proclaimed for 3 sabbaths
and no objections offered were married."

Hello Jack
many thanks for the OPR entry
i feel that it has to be the marriage i have been looking for
James sounds nothing like Samuel ,so the minister can't have misheard ?
possibly Samuel's father was called James ,or he had two names ie James Samuel or Samuel James even
the time frame is right for the birth of their first born Elizabeth who was aged 6 in the 1841 census .The strange thing is from Samuel the 1st there followed a long line of decendants called Samuel Oliver right up till the 1900's. The name James does figure in the family line up though ,
Samuel & Mary's son Robert had a James William and also a Samuel .
Oliver dosen't seem to be a common surname in Argyll .I think i can see the marriage for my Samuel's brother? Robert Olipher on the IGI he married a Kathrin Thomson in 1840 at saddle&skipness Catherine i have followed up till her death in 1887 in Rothesay and her address tied in with the poor law details given on her nephew Samuel 's application .
well thankyou once again Jack
kind regards
