Scotsorigins...wow hadn't thought to check them out before.. came up with several John Jeffrey names (including a spelling I hadn't thought to check) which took me to the IGI entries.
An interesting one is
John Japhry
Christening: MAR 1793 Airdrie, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:
Father: James Japhry
Mother: Agnes Russell
But on looking further down the IGI these came up...all with parents the same James and Agnes.
JOHN JAFFRY Gender: Male Christening: MAR 1793 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
JOHN JEFFERY Gender: Male Christening: AUG 1795 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
JOHN JAFFERY - Gender: Male Christening: SEP 1795 New Monkland, Lanark
Now, aside from the fact of the different baptism dates, what are the chances that James and Agnes are the parents my John?
If they are his parents it seems he did not follow the usual naming patterns in his sons.
(1841 census)
John JEFFREY, 47, male servant, born in County - Yes
Isabella STEVEN, 50, -------- b - NO
George JEFFREY, 18, iron moulder, b - Yes
David JEFFREY, 16, iron moulder, b - Yes
John JEFFREY, 25, calico printer, b - Yes
Any thoughts please?
Sylvia

Ahaaaa!!! maybe he did follow the naming pattern , sort of.
Have just found 3 more children for John and Isabella thanks to Scotsorigins so now have
Isabel (Jaffrey) Jeffrey 1815
John Jeffrey 1817
James Jeffrey 1819
George 1823 (Isabella's father's name was George)
David abt 1825
William 1826
Why would there be so many entries for the same John Jeffrey baptism? Would it be becuse of the surname variations? And why Airdrie and New Monkland...are these the same place?
Any help on this one please

Sylvia
