It's those blooming Jeffreys again! Edited later .....

I'd like to pick your collective brains again please.

Scotsorigins...wow hadn't thought to check them out before.. came up with several John Jeffrey names (including a spelling I hadn't thought to check) which took me to the IGI entries.
An interesting one is

John Japhry
Christening: MAR 1793 Airdrie, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:
Father: James Japhry
Mother: Agnes Russell

But on looking further down the IGI these came up...all with parents the same James and Agnes.

JOHN JAFFRY Gender: Male Christening: MAR 1793 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

JOHN JEFFERY Gender: Male Christening: AUG 1795 New Monkland, Lanark, Scotland

JOHN JAFFERY - Gender: Male Christening: SEP 1795 New Monkland, Lanark

Now, aside from the fact of the different baptism dates, what are the chances that James and Agnes are the parents my John?
If they are his parents it seems he did not follow the usual naming patterns in his sons.

(1841 census)
John JEFFREY, 47, male servant, born in County - Yes
Isabella STEVEN, 50, -------- b - NO
George JEFFREY, 18, iron moulder, b - Yes
David JEFFREY, 16, iron moulder, b - Yes
John JEFFREY, 25, calico printer, b - Yes

Any thoughts please?
Sylvia

Added later...

Ahaaaa!!! maybe he did follow the naming pattern , sort of.
Have just found 3 more children for John and Isabella thanks to Scotsorigins so now have

Isabel (Jaffrey) Jeffrey 1815
John Jeffrey 1817
James Jeffrey 1819
George 1823 (Isabella's father's name was George)
David abt 1825
William 1826

Why would there be so many entries for the same John Jeffrey baptism? Would it be becuse of the surname variations? And why Airdrie and New Monkland...are these the same place?

Any help on this one please :-(
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia

You say that you found the 3 John Jaffray births/christening on the IGI. Did you notice if they were submitted or extracted entries? They may well be submitted entries sent in by people searching the family and who have transcribed what they thought they saw on the OPR micro films. The entry you should take most seriously is the one extracted from the OPR records.

New Monklands and Airdrie: same place. I think you'll find that the earlier records have New Monklands, the later ones Airdrie.

Best wishes

Catriona

Thanks Catriona
I've had another look at the Jeffrey entries and by my calculations I have the wrong Jreffrey parents in James and Agnes.

The records on my John Jeffrey (1841 census and burial record) all point to his birth c1791 and checking IGI again gives this, an extracted entry:

JOHN JAFFRIE
Birth: 25 DEC 1790
Christening: 09 JAN 1791 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:
Father: JOHN JAFFRIE Family
Mother: ISOBEL CARMICHAEL

These parents are in line with the naming of his children, also he seems to have spent his life in the Barony district which makes my think the Airdrie and Monkland entries are wrong for him.

Other siblings on the IGI for John born 1791 are:

1. JAMES JAFFRAY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 25 JUN 1795 Barony, Lanark, Scotland

2. ISOBEL JAFFRAY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 09 SEP 1792 Barony, Lanark, Scotland.

It's getting the proof that counts, but I think I'm finally closing in on him
