Did you check the 1851 census for St Cuthbert's?
There is a 9 year old Peter Menzies staying with father, George 43, a coachman born in Moffat, Dumfries, Jessie 40 born Newton, Midlothian. Also a brother, William, age 2.
At the top of the same page there is a Euphemia Anderson whose widowed daughter was staying Janet Menzies she had two sons, Robert 18, Alexander 10 also staying at the same house.
In 1861 the same family are in Canongate.
Peter's birth was long before statutory records began in Scotland so there may not be any birth or baptismal records. However from the 1851 and 1861 censuses it looks more likely that Peter was born in 1842.
If Peter's first wife was Ann Stevenson then Peter had a sister born in 1856, So you should be able to find the mother, Jessie (or Janet's) death between 1856 and 1861 probably in Canongate. Georges death should be there too.
If he did marry Ann Stevenson (or perhaps just Steven) in Dec 1866 his age is given as 24 which again leads to an 1842 birth.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).
Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
