OPRs and ScotlandsPeople

Post by Pandabean » Sun Oct 22, 2006 1:36 pm

I read somewhere that OPR's are going to be up on Scotlands People sometime this year or next. Just wondering if there is any more on the progress of this and will it still cost 5 credits to view a certificate?

Just noticed while doing a search on the OPR's the No Image Column contains No Image as links rather than Just text saying No Link. Is this a possible devlopment that OPRs may come soon or am I just sepculating too much?

See http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... ?r=551&973 , except the recent 11th meeting minutes haven't been posted yet.

Since the final minutes have been circulated to the User Group by GROS I see no problem in posting the relevant item here.....

4.5 OPR’s

Duncan said that this was perhaps the most important piece of on-going work with the indexing being the major stumbling block. The aim was still to have the OPR’s on line by the end of the year. Work was nearly complete and the decision as to whether to release OPR’s Scotland wide, or in tranches would shortly be taken. The creation of a new index was essential to give precise access to the image sought, but this might mean customers losing past viewed images.

Richard said that the OPR’s would be available by county as with the statutory records. John made a suggestion about offering a free monthly trial to compensate for the possible loss of previous searches.

Jan said it would be useful if information from a reference book such as Bloxhams was available online. Ken said that the SAFHS would be opposed to this as they had gathered this information. Duncan agreed.

Since we've not been able to view OPR images online, does this comment refer to the possible loss of viewed SRI BMD and Wills & Testaments images?

Hi Mary

Ummm.....I think it's just referring to past viewed OPR searches.....no images involved even though that is what the minutes say! We've all been able to see the indexes and paid to view them...just not the actual original pages. With new indexing we might lose some of those searches performed in the old.

Undoubtedly our learning curves are about to be affected as well.......

Best wishes
Jean

To be honest, I'm so looking forward to being able to view OPR images online, I'd accept losing the OPR searches from my list. (Might even cut down on the number of pages of searches I've accumulated - they are becoming a bit unmanageable now  ).
