OPR Wedding Date Help.....

Are all the OPR’s indexed on Scotlandspeople web site. I have been searching using different spellings trying to find the wedding of Archibald Finlayson and Janet Marchbanks but I cannot find this information.

I have been informed by a distant cousin that she has seen the details of our ancestor’s wedding/banns in Edinburgh but only wrote the info down as 28th December 1828 at Skirling.

Hi Maggie:

The OPRs are primarily records of the Church of Scotland.

SP doesn't produce any hits on Janet Marchbanks, but Janet Marchbank produces 2 hits dated Jan 1826 - Dec 1828. Ja* Marchbank for the same span of time produces 4 hits, but none hold up with Archibald Finlayson as a spouse.

I believe they married at The Church of Scotland, as both their births and their male childrens births are on the OPR's records.

Long time no hear

Wish we could find this marriage but I think it should be earlier - more like 1818-20. Peter was baptized in 1820 so if they weren't married then there could be something in the Kirk sessions about it.
Don't suppose you've found Janets death yet and do you know what happened to Marion (born c1827)?

Hi Maggie,

I tried the spelling Marjoribanks which is often pronouced Marchbanks - no luck there either. Tried on ScotlandsPeople using wildcards as Mar*bank* - still no luck.

No sign of Arch* Fin*layson with any name resembling Janet Marchbank either.

Sorry the year should be 1823. I have downloaded all the OPR weddings at Skirling from 1818 to 1825 to see if they had been indexed incorrect but they are not on there. Will contact relative to see where she obtained the information.

While looking on the IGI for something else entirely I came across someone indexed as Mary Margery Banks - its was in Perthshire, so not one of yours but perhaps is might be worth checking under Banks.
