running out of places to look for DEAS.....

Post by wrighte » Wed Jan 31, 2007 2:33 am

I need help in where to look next. I have traced my DEAS line back to Leslie in Fife. Robert DEAS and Helen INGLIS had 5 children all in Leslie beginning in 1751. Their children are Helen 1751, John 1753, Robert 1755, Andrew 1759 and David 1762. I have been unable to locate a birth record for Robert who must have been born around 1726 or a marriage record for Robert and Helen. Helen appears to be the daughter of Robert Inglis and Helen Jolly also from Leslie in Fife.

I have spent a fortune on SP and I have also used the LDS records, but I can't seem to get past this point. HELP!!

If you check the detail for the Lesley parish records on the LDS site, you will find they have marriages 1729-1750, 1761 and post 1779, which may be why there is no sign of your couple. Baptisms are listed from 1673-1854, so it may be worthwhile to view the film, looking for records missed or mistranscribed in the index.

Someone with more knowledge than myself re Scottish records may be able to advise the existence of other Lesley records elsewhere, or whether the years filmed by the LDS are the total available.

Hi Wrighte
What Trish has noticed on the LDS site is verified by GROS:
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/

444. LESLIE
444/1 *B 1673-1767 *M 1729-61 D -
444/2 B 1764-1819 M - D -
444/3 B - M 1779-1819 D 1761-1819
444/4 B 1820-54 M 1838-54 D -
444/5 B - M 1820-37 D 1820-37
444/6 B 1600-45 M 1613-45 D -
RNE (Photocopy of original now preserved in Worcester College, Oxford)
* For B and M 1613-45 see OPR 444/6

Even in some of the above periods there may be gaps. You have done really well to get to where you have - you've reached the point where many people find that the information either runs out or becomes very thin on the ground.

Best wishes
Lesley

Have you also considered using Dyas as a search?

thanks everyone, I have tried different spellings and I haven't managed to come up with anything. Maybe it's time to move on to another line!

The oldest Deas I have is Henry Deas 1769-1849. He'd married a Mary McGrigor and had 2 boys & 2 girls.

Hi :)

Henry, my 4th GGF, was born in Arngask, Fife. I think his parents were William Deas & Ann Din.
