OPR Marriage John Lennox to Mary ?.....

Hi:)

I've uploaded the Oct. 27, 1793 marriage between John Lennox to Mary ? ( can't make out her surname) However the marriage on IGI has the surname Buist for that particular date.

Hi Dennis,

Where are you finding the surname Buist? Both the online IGI and ScotlandsPeople have her transcribed as Mary B.

I am not sure what the name is on the OPR, looking at both the names in the margin, and in the body of the text.

I think I got it from the 1866 death record of Laurence Lennox which has John Lennox & Mary Buist as his parents. I suppose that I took, in haste, the John Lennox & Mary B. to be Mary Buist.

I suppose that the place of marriage should have set off an alarm.

Although, the marriage record for my GFs GPs has Laurence Lennox & Catherine Deas as the parents of GFs GF; which takes me back to the 1st paragraph.

Hi Dennis,

It looks like Byoy in the margin and Bewy in the text. Or the second one could be Buoy.

On SP there are:
15 OPR Births for Buoy
10 OPR Marriages
1 1861 census
7 1871 census

Hi Dennis,

These look like two children from the marriage on that OPR, both found on the online IGI and should be available on ScotlandsPeople.

JOHN LENNOX - Christening: 29 JAN 1795 Middle Church, Paisley, Renfrewshire
Father: JOHN LENNOX
Mother: MARY BOWIE

JAMES LENNOX - Christening: 24 AUG 1803 Middle Church, Paisley, Renfrewshire
Father: JOHN LENNOX
Mother: MARY BOWIE

The person registering the death may well have mistaken Buist for Bowie. That has to be a good possibility.

GGF 1862 - 1901 Laurence Lennox/Annie Richardson
GGGF 1832 - 1891 Alexander Lennox/Margaret McGregor (no mom on DC)
On MC lists mom as Catherine Deas
GGGGF 1796 - 1866 Lawrence Lennox/Catherine Deas
Parents listed on DC as John Lennox/ Mary Buist
