Need help in reading 1685 baptism entry.....

Post by Dennis » Wed Feb 21, 2007 2:40 am

Hi:)

I've uploaded the Sept. 6, 1685 baptism entry for Laurence Lennox; it appears his dad was Thomas Lennox, but that's about all I can read.

There was another Laurence Lennox with a baptism on March 8, 1685 to a Hew Lennox. I've put up that image. I don't know if/how they are related.

Hi Dennis,

I take the first one to read as follows:
"Baptised to Thomas Lennox in Dunbarney an infant called Laurence; witness ? Lennox and William Carmichel."
Just about to try the second one !!

I think the first witness could be Hew.

Hi again Dennis,
The second one:-

"8 March 1685. Baptised to Hew(Hugh) Lennox in Dunbarney an infant called Laurence. Witness Alexander Langland and Alexander Anderson,
Thomas Lennox and James Anderson."

It looks as though Thomas Lennox and Hugh Lennox might be brothers. As both children were called Laurence, perhaps this was the name of their grandfather ?

Hi
I agre with Annette re the first witness.
My take on both entries is
6 September 1685
'Baptised to Thomas Lennox in Dumbarney ane sone called
Lawrence Witness Hew Lennox and William Carmichael.'

And did you notice 10 lines further down that Hew Lennox was witness to the Anderson birth. :?

2nd page
'Baptised to Hew Lennox in Dumbarney ane sone called
Lawrence Witnesses Alexander Langland, alexander Anderson
Thomas Lennox and James Anderson.'

I think that you will need to do some Exploration of all these Anderson links :D
