Another wee conundrum...

Post by emanday » Wed Feb 21, 2007 1:19 pm

James Latto marries Jean Farmer on 8 Nov 1740 Leuchars, Fife

James Latto marries Jean Farmour on 17 Jan 1747 Leuchars, Fife

Between these two couples there are a total of 5 children...

James C: 28 Feb 1742 in Leuchars
William C: 22 Apr 1744 in Leuchars

Alexander C: 17 Jan 1747 (Note that date!) in Leuchars
Robert C: 20 Oct 1751 in Leuchars
Christian B: 16 Jan 1761 c: 18 Jan 1761 in Ferry Port on Craig, Fife

Does the panel think

Are these two separate couples and the first two weans belong to the 1740 pair?

OR

Looking at the Christening date of Alexander and the marriage date of the "2nd couple" is there any possibility a "re-marriage" took place, maybe so that wee Alexander could get baptized in their new church?

Can't shed any light on your querry. I was just wondering is your Christian a girl? I have a few Christians in my family from around this time and they are all female. When you here of a Christian today you presume it is male however it originally seems to have been a female name probably evolving into Christina, just wondering.

Hi Andrew,

Yes this is Christian a girl, but I have also found a couple of male Christians in my various lines. They seem to stick to that, but many of the girls seem to have gone to Christina in later documents.

I've even got a Chirstain, female, who changed to Christina.

It's a mistake!!!

Couldn't figure it out, so decided to blow my remaining credits on SP (the original info was from IGI)

The marriage in 1747 has quite deliberately and clearly been crossed out! Maybe the minsiter, or whoever wrote it, had imbibed a little too much of the [5 cups] because it appears that he started to write it all in, then realised he was entering Alexander's baptism in the marriages page!! He didn't even get as far as entering the parish names!

Since this is clearly a "deleted entry" why is it indexed at all?

Anyway, the result is that there is only one couple and their five kids! #-o

Cost me six credits for a non-event, but at least I know what happened now

 Seems a good question to put to SP and you may even get your 6 credits back  .
