Hi all
Below is a message that a contact sent me as it is one of my names cany anyone help?
This is a very unusual name, one I believe I have seen before, and just as hard to make
out on the certificate.
My GGGrandfather, William Kerr was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Kerr & a Gamekeeper called
Ruecastle in 1836. They lived in Dumfriesshire.
Elizabeth and her son appear in the 1841 census living with her parents in Kirkbean.
That is all that I have.

Hullo Heather
Like you I thought Ruecastle a most unusual name, so unusual in fact that I had never heard it before.
Imagine my surprise therefore to find so many entries in the IGI (Ruecastle/Rucastle/Reucastle/Rewcastle): 731 for England, 226 for Scotland (of which 49 for Ayrchire). However there were only 4 for Dumfriesshire of which : Jean REWCASTLE b. 1827 to John REWCASTLE and Elizabeth GOLDIE or GOUDIE; the couple were married in 1826 in Kirkoswald, Ayrshire.
All the best for your searches

William Kerr
Dear Heather,
I had to join this site to post a reply.
Am I understanding your message correctly, that your GGGrandfather
was William Kerr, son of Elizabeth Kerr and a Gamekeeper called Reucastle.
If so then we are related, William Kerr was my GGGrandfather too.
James Kerr.
