Any Ideas or Suggestions?

Post by Bergelmir » Sat Apr 28, 2007 6:10 pm

Hi all, im new here! great site I have started to read alot, as much as I can.

Luckly in my search I have been able to get back to 1775. Which to me is a feat in itself however I seem to be hitting a "Brick Wall"

I have found the OPR Birth record for a William Elder Born/Christ. 05/21/1775 I'm positive that this is a relative. However trying to find his parent/parents has been hard. His fathers name is William as well and according to SP there are something like 10 or so marriages that would possibly fit his parents in the Perthshire/Perth area.

In any case, do any of you have any idea where i could possibly find more info in terms of pin pointing the correct marriage/mothers name?

Thanks for any help :D

Hi Bergelmir, and Welome to Talking Scot [scotland-flag]

I've had a quick look on IGI http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp where there are several William Elder births/christenings. There is 1 marriage in Perth of a William Elder in 1772 that may be of help in narrowing down your options.

Some records near the 1775 birth year you give include:

I'm not sure about why you gave his name as William Elder Born/Christ, but it may help things if you could clarify it.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the help, I ment to say he was born/christened in 1775 I know that that is the specific william elder that im looking for.... My only problem is figuring out how to pin point his father William as well and who his mother might have been, that marriage you list is one that i thought could be a fit, but i cant seem to find a "smoking gun" so to speak that pinpoints that marriage as the correct one. Im newer to the whole family search and such, I just dont want to assume thats them without hard evidence.

Thanks for your help!! :D :D

Might as well double post rather than add a new topic... On the same person William Elder Christened 21 may 1775.. he was christened in Clunie thus I extracted out from SP there are something around 15 births/christenings around William Elder's in 1775. The kicker is Williams Dad per the SP OPR i looked at is also named William, there are 15 children In clunie from 1751-1788 born to a William Elder. I am lost, dunno if i am looking at 2 generations of William Elder's or if maybe he remarried and had the kids...

I would assume a woman in 1751 wouldnt be able to have kids again in 1780's...

Any suggestions or ideas of where i could look to sort this lot out?

:D :D

also as a small note... Would i be able to use the cottages where they were born in to sort them out? as some were born in Forneth and some in Loaning etc... in Clunie. Or would people have moved around enough to where this wouldnt matter.

Thank you! :D :D

Hi
I would assume a woman in 1751 wouldn't be able to have kids again in 1780's...
I doubt that if a woman was having her first child in 1751, lets say at around 18-20yrs old, she would still be able to have children in the 1780s. Most of the women in my tree stop having children around thier mid forties. Some things don't really change despite the passing of time!!

Certainly a look at the OPRs may sort it out - as you suggest, if the place is different, (although it would be possible for William to marry again to a younger woman and have a second family in a different area...) or better still, if an occupation is given for William. I'm guessing from your post and from what Frances found that no mothers' names are given for these children?

Not sure where you are based but it may be better to look at a microfilm of the OPR for the area as this may be cheaper and give you a better idea of the "bigger picture" than checking out all the births on SP's OPRs.

Best wishes
Lesley
