Old Kilmarnock Catholic Parish

Post by winslowsmom » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:39 pm

Would anyone know what Catholic parish would serve Kilmarnock before St. Joseph's was built in 1847?
I am looking for a birth for Catherine McInnes, McGinnes, McGuiness that should be 1845 ish.
Parents Donald McInnes and Elizabeth (MacDonald or Kennedy)

Thanks, Cathy

Hi Cathly
This does not answer your question, but looks to be a useful file:
ScotlandsPeople Catholic Parish registers; Missions and Parishes
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... ssions.pdf

https://wiki.familysearch.org/en/Kilmar ... lic_Church
Kilmarnock, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
History—
In 1834, there were 140 Catholic families in Kilmarnock. A church was founded in 1844 and dedicated in 1847. It has served from Ayr since before 1829.
Does that mean that it came under Ayr parish?

It appears to come under the Diocese of Galloway.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hope you found the records you were looking for Cathy. I found a birth for 1845 for St.Josephs Kilmarnock. I then looked up her elder sister, born 1840. It was under St Margaret's Ayr, (baptised at Irvine). These records are not available anywhere else so I was pleased to find them.

Good luck with your searching
