my Abercrombie 4xggran THANKYOU .....

I wonder if anyone can help me?
Ive just discovered my 4xggrandmothers name was Martha Abercrombie
mothers name Molly ? father Charles Martha married Filippo Rossini 1819
canongate Edinbourgh I cant find any of the family on any cencus Martha
was born in 1799 and died in Glasgow in 1876 in 1851 census is living in
Calton Parish with son philip 18 her son Antonio is living at st Andrews
parish and I think his sister Barbara is living there but his wife Isabella
[Bishop] isnt with the family all the information on this family has all different spelling of surname.
I also think filippo was born in Italy,how do Igo any further back Ive tried
Scotlands people and family search already and freecen all spellings,
could anyone advise me please thankyou.

Hi Isabel,
Do you have the details of Philip and Antonio from the 1881 census. There are also several other Rossini family groups.

Not a huge amount of info you don't have but a definite lead on Filippo(Philip).

Widow Philip Rossini Martha Abercromby Date 9th Sept. 1862 Age 63

Husband died at Gartnaval Asylum 14 years ago. He was sent there by the parish.
Present residence Westmuir?
Place of Birth Baillie Berwicks Brewery Close Canongate, Edinburgh.
His, Italy.
Cause of Application Age and Frailty
Occupation ?Fire? Work Worker

Children Anthony 40 born Gallowgate a Bird Cage & ?Trap Maker
Married 8 children working resides Gallowgate.
Philip 28 born Gallowgate a Barber
Married 3 children resides at Gallowgate opposite the Barracks

ParentsCharles Abercromby and Mary Nicol deceased.

The rest of the application listed her place of residence over the past 20 years. They were all in the Calton area of the city.

You may get more information on Philip who died approx. 1848 from NHS archives www.archives.gla.ac.uk.

I was in abt 10.30 this morning - but no one using the Archives when i left at 12.
At least not anyone snowed under with large Poor Law ledgers :lol:

sorry I was so long getting back yes that is the family on family search it
gave two marriages for martha one to filippo and one to antonio but same
date so I am really pleased with wht you have found.
Most of the family went to australia about 1888-1940s so Ive been finding
it hard to track them down with all the different spellings.
when you say poor house application does it mean one of them had a
mental illness.
HA HA just thought by time Ive done with my tree people will think its run
in the familly.
