Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an accessible index record (like the BMD index) for divorce in Scotland?

Re: Divorce Records
Hello Stuart,
I've never really chased one up but it seems that if both events occurred in Scotland after statutory registration there would probably be an RCE on the marriage record. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... .aspx?1314
Search the NAS catalogue and see the NAS guide to divorce records. http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/divorce.asp
Maybe something would be in newspaper archives, if they exist for the period in question, and depending on whether it was when divorce was a relative rarity or when it became much more common.
Hope that helps,
Alan

Re: Divorce Records
Hi Alan,
Thanks for the info. Currently NAS is down with technical problems,
Scotlands people does not have an obvious index.

Re: Divorce Records
StuartC,
If you're talking about very early divorces (before 1830), have a look at the book Alienated Affections by Leah Leneman and the supplementary index in the Talking Scot Library: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=10535
Later records are indeed indexed at NAS.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Re: Divorce Records
Hi Sarah,
Thanks. My interest is post 1984. I think I have now got some new info that may
give me access to the index.

Re: Divorce Records
Hi Andrew,
Thanks. Looks like you need to go in person to see the records. I live in Buckinghamshire so a bit
more than a day trip.
Thanks all the same. I might be up there sometime later this year
