George Burton Music Hall Entertainer.....

Post by Paula » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:35 pm

Hi

Can anyone help - I'm looking for place and date of birth of George Burton, a music hall entertainer in Scotland from around 1930 to at least 1957.
He may be from Glasgow.
All I have is that he fathered a child around 1930 and was in a show at the Empress Theatre Glasgow in 1956/57.
Any little clue would help!!

Thanks

Paula

HI Paula

Googling the name this could also be him - if your eyes can stand the glare of the red type  http://members.lycos.co.uk/derekgreen1/photoalbum3.html
If they cant this is what it says
WINTER SEASON 1956/57
Metropole Theatre, Glasgow:
"Scotland The Brave", with Clark and Murray, George Burton, Hugh McIlroy and Sixteen Moxon Ladies.

But no biography of any kind yet
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Paula

Also worth a look at this site:-

http://special.lib.gla.ac.uk/sta/

This is the address for their catalogue:-

Although George Burton is not mentioned in their list, the Empress Theatre is included. You might find some background information. It might also be worth contacting them to see if they might have anything that would be relevant for you.

See http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/artslibrary.bcc for the Harry Greatorex Theatre Index.

I believe also that The Stage, over 125 years on the go, have an archive, - see http://www.thestage.co.uk/stage125/archive.php .

Hi Paula

My name is Isabel. I have information on George Burton but before revealing anything, I would like to know your reason for requiring this information.
