I hope I don't have nightmares after reading that, Alan.
I look forward to something a little more palatable next time.

If even Anne is worried about nightmares... think of the rest of us!

Re: Scottish Graveyard Scandals
I've a slightly less gruesome anecdote in the family lore.
It was published in a book but I don't have a copy and I doubt it was in any newspaper [though you may find it Currie]
In the Derrygonnelly area of Fermanagh, a coffin was buried in the family lair of the church-yard.
A little later it was found that they were in fact buried in the adjoining plot.
To rectify the mistake, the family would have had to apply to the Government and Church Authorities for permission for an exhumation, with all the cost and red tape involved.
They however circumnavigated all the fuss by taking matters into their own hands.
They simply dug the grave in the correct place, dug through to the adjacent plot and pulled the coffin through!

The BBC have obviously heard of this thread and have started showing the series
Britain's Biggest Dig.
Focussing on the archeological finds along the route of the HS2 railway line.
Beginning by the excavation of thousands of burials in St James!
Actually fascinating.

Re: Scottish Graveyard Scandals
That's a great story Wilma.
I tried to find something in print about it but no luck I'm sorry to say.
All the best,
Alan

I asked my dad last night - he thinks he still has the book - somewhere!!!
If it comes to light I'll post the book version.
