I would say Alexander was born in Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

Davie, got it ok now - very clear indeed, but i've still to try and decipher.

I right clicked on the link and saved target as a TIFF Image to My Docs. Then went My Docs, right clicked on it, and in "Open With" selected Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Perfect.

So it WAS me all along - my suspicions were right! But what does that wee icon mean? Something simple no doubt....

On a second look, it could also be Dunsyne, Lanarkshire. It could also be Glasgow, Lanarkshire.

I'm now fairly sure what Mary J FRASER's pob is and it isn't anywhere close to Glasgow, but I'm still struggling to get something to fit for what is written for Alexander's pob..........

Does this upload of the image help any of you who could not open the last one?

If not, then the one below is a segment of the above image, converted to a (decent?) jpg that should be available to all. The places in question are the one with the line scored through it and the one two above it, in Lanarkshire (ditto from off-image).

All the best,

I'm still not sure about Mary but I'm fairly sure Alexander's pob is Glasgow.
Look at the Glasgow above and I think you will see what I mean.

I'm going to bed with a sore head now because I can't get Mary's.

Clear Images

David and Andrew:

Did you have to do anything difficult to produce such clear images? Are you sure they were downloaded from SP? Crystal clear on my little Mac.

For my part, as an experiment, I uploaded the TIF image after Davie e-mailed it to me, to see if there was any difference using our different PCs. The JPG image was cropped from that TIF and saved at maximum quality (minimum compression - it is usually the compresion that ruins a JPG).

All the best,

Andrew
