1881 census on Scotland's People site .....

Post by HeatherV » Tue Jan 11, 2005 2:37 am

This is more of a technical question. Does anyone know how to save 1881 census images or how to copy / paste ? When I have a census image open - there is only a print button option. Cannot seem to be able to highlight and copy the text either.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Heather

Hi Heather, I have a print button, save, maximize, minimize and a magnifying glass on all my downloads, it must be the program you used to view images when you signed into SP ??? I use Active X Control for viewing. Look at Technical Information on the SP site and see which viewer you are using.

I've only ever been able to print out the 1881 census pages.
No amount of jiggery pokery on my part got any different results :(

If you do make sure your printer will just print out in black and white though - you can use up a lot of ink on the orange bits

Thanks.

Linda - I've got all those features on every display - except - the 1881 census records. There is something different about the way they must be programmed top display and for all the tinkering I've done I just can't save, etc.

Hi Heather, I was not aware of printing only for 1881 census, I have the CD's for the 1881 census, so I have not actually had to download these images.

I'm sure someone technical will come up with something better but.......

I gave it a go after reading this and I saved it to my computer as a text file. Although not in the same format as SP it does save the information in a text format.

Hello Heather
You should try this. Open up your main letter writing soft ware and open a page as if you were about to write to me. I use MS word, but it doesn't matter what you use.
Now minimise it.
Go to your document, click on the page and then key,Ctrl+A
Now key Ctrl C.
Minimise this page and open up the word processing page that you had earlier minimised.
Click on the page and then key Ctrl+V
Within two shakes of a genealogists library pass, the image should reapear.
If this doesn't work for you come back to me
Malcolm
ps: you must key both keys at the same time

SP Images - saving and printing

If you find and click on Help & Other Resources then half way down the page click on Help with Searching then finally click on Viewing and Printing Images
This will take you to a page that will gives you some useful information and links to software that will allow you to view, print and save images.
Pick the best for your computer then hopefully all the options will then be available to you. :)

Malcolm,

Thanks for the advice - but no luck. It's is funny that there only seems to be a problem with 1881 census images as all the others work just fine.

Any further ideas please let me know. Also I have sent a request to the SP site but to date haven't received a reply.

Kindest Regards,

Heather
