Charting software

Post by searcher 52 » Wed Feb 28, 2007 11:49 pm

I'm new to this forum but have been avidly reading your posts especially this section. Like many of you seem to be I am a legacy user - the all signing and dancing version! My only criticism is that it seems a bit limited in the charting department. If I am not mistaken Legacy doesn't have the ability to provide a full drop line chart of my records. I am therefore thinking about investing in some specialist software.

I have downloaded a trial version of Tree Draw which I see also comes in a Legacy version. I also have an evaluation version of GenoPro 2007 from the most recent issue of Your Family Tree magazine.
I would be loath to move on to another program in substitution for Legacy.
Can any kind soul(s) give me some guidance here.

Hi Searcher
Welcome to Talking Scot :D

As far as I remember from a play about with it a few years back, Tree Draw is a kind of program which works along with Legacy. You can import your Legacy tree(s) into Tree Draw and it will draw the kind of chart I think you have in mind (which Legacy can't draw, as you have noticed!). When I tried it I ended up with something which stated it needed some amazingly large number of pages to print out properly (by properly I mean at a size of type that could be read!), so I didn't print it!! I expect it works better with smallish trees, or sections of larger ones.

Best wishes
Lesley
